Klaus Brückner

Born in 1950, Klaus Brückner who has diploma in fiscal affairs, served in the financial administration of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and moved in 1984 to the State Chancellery.

He was tasked there initially with development and international cooperation. In December 1989 he did the spadework for NRW's cooperation with the federal state of Brandenburg. In 1990 he moved to Potsdam, as Head of the Unit for Personnel and Budget Matters in the newly established State Chancellery of Brandenburg.

Upon his return to Düsseldorf in 1992, he headed the unit for One World policy with responsibilities for NRW's Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. 1998 onwards he worked together with representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the City of Bonn for the establishment of the 'Center for International Cooperation' and the transformation of the Bonn Bundestag building into an international conference center. From 2000 to 2002 he headed the Office of the NRW Prime Minister.

In mid-2002 Brückner moved on to the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

As GTZ programme manager in South Africa, he served as advisor to the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Finance and helped build up pan-African institutions such as the Pan-African Parliament, based in Johannesburg.

On July 1, 2008, he took over as Director of the GTZ office in the German capital Berlin.
